How does the centre support these animals?

When the animal arrives at the centre , it will go through several stages:

  1. The stages of animal welfare :

This area is composed of multiple zones .

- The finish area is where the animals are placed

when they arrive at the center.

- They can then go into the isolation area when they arrive in poor condition or in the case of suspicion of disease.

- This step also includes quarantine for animals that are apparently in good physical condition , where we carry a relevant control and collect samples of blood and stool to prevent parasites or bacteria.

- Finally, the last step includes the clinic, where injured animals that require treatment or operations are placed. Animals remain more or less time in this stage, depending on their health status.

  1. The adaptation stage :

The animal is placed. This allows a first insight into the behaviour of the animal, its movements , and its social adaptation with other animals of its kind.

  1. The pre-release :

Animals are released into the reserve center. This follows their actual behavior , their ability to survive in a small natural environment. This step is crucial for the rehabilitation of the animal because it’s the time that we realize if a release is possible or not, in the near future.

These releases are are made in different national parks and reserves, such as national parks or Pacoche Machalilla . Some species can be released directly into the Reserve University.

If the animal shows physical or behavioral problems or is too large and does not have the potential to survive by itself, it remains in the reserve center in a habitat under the watchful control of the team.

How do the animals arrive at the rehabilitation center?

The animals arrive in different ways:

♦ The animals are seized by police from people who view these protected animals as their pets, which is completely forbidden. It may be the police UPMA as well as the MAE.

♦ Special bought animals are given to the centre when the animal becomes too large or  aggressive.

♦ Some of the animals may be suffering ( sometimes a deliberate act on the part of the individual ) and require specialized care.

♦ In certain cases, some animals are found injured in the wild.

Exceptions :

Injured wild animals encountered in nature are treated and when they regain their strength , they are reintroduced directly without going through the steps seen above .

At the beginning , the center was a meadow but after conducting feeding studies on different types of species ,  many trees were planted where the animals could eat fruit and leaves from. Today the center is entirely wooded.
